Recorded live at The Stables Theatre, Wavendon
Review by Ray Comiskey:
............... there's no denying the technical command of the six saxophonists and the rhythm section that make Sax Appeal. Recorded live after their visit to Cork, with America's Nelson Rangell added, they sound more relaxed and less abrasively combative than in the past. The album is a personal triumph for Derek Nash (alto/soprano), who wrote and arranged all the material, making full use of an ensemble that runs from alto to baritone, with some flute and bass clarinet doubles for flavour; he also, for my money, outshines the better known Rangell. Good solo work too from tenors Mornington Lockett and Gary Plumley.
